Privacy Policy

Effective date: 27 May 2026  ·  Last updated: 27 May 2026

This policy explains what personal information Lyra Tarot collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what rights you have. Please read it before using the app.

1. Who we are

Lyra Tarot is an AI-powered tarot reading and reflection app. For questions about this policy, contact us at bobt.sa.new@gmail.com. We are based in South Africa and this policy is governed by the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) as well as applicable international standards.

2. Information we collect

We collect the following information that you provide voluntarily during onboarding and use:

We do not collect payment card numbers, government IDs, passwords, or any biometric data. We do not run analytics, advertising SDKs, or crash-reporting services.

3. How we use your information

4. Third-party services we use

To deliver AI readings and voice synthesis, certain data is transmitted to the following third-party services. By using Lyra Tarot you consent to this transmission.

Anthropic (Claude AI)
Your profile information (name, astrological data, birth card) and your conversation messages are sent to Anthropic's API to generate tarot readings and chat responses. Anthropic's privacy policy is available at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.

OpenAI (Voice synthesis)
When you use the voice narration feature, the text of readings and responses is sent to OpenAI's text-to-speech API. OpenAI's privacy policy is available at openai.com/policies/privacy-policy.

Important: We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for marketing or commercial purposes. Data is only shared with Anthropic and OpenAI strictly to provide the AI and voice features of the app.

5. Data storage and retention

The majority of your data — including your profile, reading journal, and preferences — is stored locally on your device using secure on-device storage (AsyncStorage). We do not operate a central server or database that stores your personal information.

You can permanently delete all stored data at any time using the Clear everything option in Settings → Danger zone. Uninstalling the app will also remove all locally stored data.

Data transmitted to Anthropic and OpenAI for AI generation is subject to those companies' own retention and deletion policies, which you can review at the links in Section 4 above.

6. Children's privacy

Lyra Tarot is intended for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through this app, please contact us at bobt.sa.new@gmail.com and we will take steps to delete that information.

7. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at bobt.sa.new@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.

8. Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data. All API communications with Anthropic and OpenAI are conducted over encrypted HTTPS connections. Your on-device data is subject to your device's own security protections (screen lock, device encryption).

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. For significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you through the app.
